…across the city for the legendary Ride Joburg challenge, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect South African summer’s day — clear skies, sunshine, and that unmistakable Joburg energy in the air.
From the moment we unloaded our bikes and saddled up, the excitement was palpable. Cyclists of all ages and fitness levels filled the roads — thousands of riders united by a shared love of two wheels and open roads. Among them, the Sling Cycles crew rolled out in true team spirit, a mix of seasoned riders and absolute first-timers ready to take on the challenge together.
One of our team members hadn’t been on a bike in years — in fact, he only got his bike on the Friday before the race! But with the grit of a Jack Russell chasing a ball, he made it across the finish line with a big smile and sore a**. Then there was our youngest rider yet, 12-year-old Dan, who proved that age has nothing on enthusiasm. Watching him take on the course with such confidence was one of the day’s highlights.
There’s something truly special about Ride Joburg — that rare chance to glide along the city’s highways, usually jammed with traffic, and see the City of Gold from a completely new perspective. The skyline, the crowds, the cheers — it all came together to remind us why cycling is so much more about adventure than just a sport.
We finished the race tired, sun-kissed, and excited to do it again next year. The Sling Cycles team may have crossed the line at different times, but we all finished as one, celebrating an unforgettable day on the saddle.
